About the Author
Keith Topping is a professor in the Department of Psychology, University of Dundee (Dundee DD1 4HN, Scotland), where he directs postgraduate professional training in educational psychology. He is also director of the Center for Paired Learning, which develops and researches the effectiveness of methods used by nonprofessionals (such as parents or peers) to provide tutoring in fundamental skills (e.g., reading, spelling, writing, science, math, information technology) and at higher order levels, across a wide age range and in many different contexts. He directed the Higher Education Effective Learning Project (peer-assisted learning for students in college and university) and is codirector of the Read On project (cross-age peer tutoring in reading and thinking between 7- and 11-year-olds). He is interested in problematic behavior in schools and led a national project on promoting social competence among students. He also conducts research in electronic literacy and computer-aided assessment.
